Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay
WHY JAKE WAS NOMINATED
Jake loves Louisville and takes special pride in making every guest at Kentucky Kingdom feel welcome. Jake is a dependable and hardworking individual who will do anything to keep Kentucky Kingdom clean and beautiful for guests to enjoy. He goes above and beyond the call of duty to keep the park’s grounds looking great throughout the season. He is willing to come in early or stay late to pressure wash, pick up trash, clean restrooms, or take on other tasks. He’ll take on any chore – from biohazardous clean-up to scrubbing toilets, from bussing tables to emptying trash – and all with a smile. He is diligent, attentive to detail, and completes every task he is assigned in a timely manner. Besides keeping the park clean, he goes out of his way to help the park’s guests feel welcome, whether it’s a smile and a greeting, help with directions to a ride, or assistance in finding a lost item. Jake understands the concept of “service with a smile” and goes the extra mile to make sure the park’s guests enjoy their visit. He leads by example and is well liked by the entire Park Services staff.
The Brown Hotel
WHY SOLOMON WAS NOMINATED
Having a vantage point of the big picture while simultaneously having an eye for the details, is a tall order, even for the most veteran of hoteliers. It has to be something inspired in one’s day-to-day devotion to the business… the business of hospitality. As a houseman, Solomon can engage both. He sees the building as a team, as a unit. He knows that we cannot accomplish the task of running The Brown Hotel without one another. Solomon takes every effort to promote collaboration and a helping hand, which he will not deny anyone. Not only is he an ambassador of teamwork; as a representative of service, guest want not… as Solomon insures every detail of a request is fulfilled. As we have seen with many Rose Award recipients and nominees of past, the next sentence is nearly a prerequisite for entry but it shouldn’t go without saying… Solomon does not say “No”, he is a “Yes” Man! Solomon stays late, comes in early, picks up shifts, picks up responsibilities… continuously, without losing a smile.
As a Back of the House Nominee for this award, you can’t ask for much more. Solomon doesn’t just promote teamwork, he inspires it. He doesn’t just show up for work and go through the motions, he ensures the job is done right and thoroughly. He doesn’t just work at The Brown Hotel, he is its working drive.
WHY HENRY WAS NOMINATED
Henry has been a fine dining chef at Z’s Oyster House and now at Le Moo. He has a degree from University of Louisville in Psychology but decided to pursue his passion for food and has worked his way up to his current position. He is responsible for developing new menu items and daily and weekly specials for Le Moo. He has been a vital member of the chef team and is a major reason why the restaurant has earned nationwide accolades from The Food Network and other critics. We have been named “Best New Restaurant in Louisville” “Best Steakhouse in Kentucky” and named “One of the Top 25 Places for Steak in the Country” by The Food Network. Henry’s attention to detail on a daily basis is amazing. As a chef he is always working to educate both the heart of house and the service staff on their knowledge of various aspects of our industry. He can create spectacular dishes from Steak Tartare to Prosciutto Wrapped Shrimp with Saffron Hollandaise to homemade desserts and anything in between. He has a work ethic that is second to none and his leadership on a daily basis resonates throughout the entire staff at our restaurant. We could not have been named one of the top 25 steak houses in the country without his presence.
SpringHill Suites/Fairfield Inn Louisville Downtown
WHY CODY WAS NOMINATED
Cody is a recent college graduate who relocated to Louisville from Bloomington, IN. He graduated Indiana University’s Hospitality Program in December of 2015 and moved to Louisville and started is position at the SpringHill Suites/Fairfield Inn shortly after in February. He worked at hotels while in college, starting as a front desk associate, and really found a passion for the hospitality industry. He plans to pursue various positions in hotels and eventually become a General Manager someday.
Cody does an outstanding job of making sure all of our incoming groups traveling into Louisville have a very unique experience, not only at our hotel, but in the city. He actively stays in the know, making sure he knows all the great restaurants, festivals, parks, and so on that he can recommend to our guests. People would never know he’s not from Louisville. He makes every guest feel welcome and his service is always top notch. We had a group have a luncheon at our hotel after a funeral just last week, and without being asked, Cody made a welcome sign and stood outside in the parking lot in his suit and tie on a 100 degree day, making sure every guest was greeted as they pulled into the parking lot and he guided them where to park. Anticipating needs is his strong point and he goes above and beyond to make sure his guests are taken care of. I’ve never seen one guest disappointed with his service. He never hesitates to step up in any department when his help is needed, and he always does it with a smile, whether he’s interacting with guests or our other employees. His service is always genuine and I love seeing him represent both our hotels and our city.
Residence Inn Louisville Downtown
WHY JESSE WAS NOMINATED
Jesse Wade was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He spent most of his life as a manager in the restaurant industry. After his recent retirement he found himself itching to get back to work, this is when he found himself at the Residence Inn Louisville Downtown as a Security Guard. When Jesse is away from work he is a passionate University of Louisville sports fan, mainly basketball and football as he gets quite bored by baseball! He also enjoys spending time with his loving wife, daughter, and two dogs.
Jesse is one of the most loyal and helpful associates at the Residence Inn Louisville Downtown. He shows up night after night to keep the hotel a safe place for all of our guests. Jesse is more than happy to help out in any way possible to make the hotel run smoothly. This was proven to be true when the hotel recently lost our maintenance manager suddenly and had no replacement in sight. Jesse kindly stepped up to aid with all maintenance issues during the day. Even though this is not his forte he has alleviated the stress put on the rest of the staff with the open position.
There are plenty of employees that step up and make themselves available to help out more than necessary but what truly sets Jesse apart is his attitude. You will never run into Jesse without partaking in an upbeat conversation for at least a couple minutes. He always has a contagious smile on his face and will give you a “fist-bump” when meeting any new folks!
There is not one employee at the Residence Inn that doesn’t think Jesse is a perfect candidate for this because of his magnetic personality and genuine generosity towards guests and staff members alike. He is an employee that exemplifies the merit of the Rose award and deserves to be recognized for his dedication to the industry.
WHY RITA WAS NOMINATED
Rita Tuck has worked at the Crowne Plaza Hotel for almost 40 years. She has turned her first and only full time job into a long lasting career. In 1977, Rita began her career at the Executive West Hotel as a housekeeper. She transferred to the Engineering Department in 1983. Her responsibilities include the office work for the department, but she does so much more. She is the heart of the department’s rapid response to resolving guest issues. If a guest has a concern, it is Rita’s responsibility to answer the phone and ensure that a technician follows up to the guest’s satisfaction. Since we became a Crowne Plaza in 2009, Rita has been an active member of our brand champion team. This team is responsible for organizing associate events while promoting our brand. She has been Santa’s helper, washed co-workers cars and been dunked in a dunking booth – all with a great attitude and a big smile. Her willingness to go the extra mile makes her a great nominee for the Rose Award.
